Blue Splash, Building Blog; Part One
After examining the kit parts and instructions, the first order of business is to assemble the keel box. After lightly sanding the contact surfaces, 15 minute epoxy was used along with some small clamps. To keep the box the right width, and glue from seeping in, Eric recommends wrapping the fin in clear packing tape and inserting in it into the box. See the pictures of this process below:
The tube forward the box is the mast step for traditional rig. Since I'm going to be using a swing rig, I removed it, however, the resulting flange is just to small, and repeatedly cracked apart upon inserting the fin. It took a lot of grief and some extra fiberglass reinforcement to remedy. Probably better to leave it attached, but it complicates the swing rig mast step...I suggested to Eric that he make a swing rig version with a larger flange. In any event, this joint can be problematic, so if you trim it, be sure to reinforce it with a extra layer of glass & epoxy!

Blue Splash RG-65; Building Blog
So, the Roo and I have purchased two Blue Splash RG-65 kits from Eric Rosenbaum, and are about to build our new boats.

More sail tuning...
Here's Juno at the Blow-Out in her B-rig; I think the jib looks ok, but maybe the main is a little too full? More vang maybe? Please comment and help dial the poor girl in!

Help Tune the Juno!
The Juno seemed pretty quick at the Blow-Out, hampered primarily by wretched starts and downwind sailing by me. Here's a few pictures of her on Sunday with her A-rig. She pointed high, handled well, and seemed fast, but there's always room for improvement.
Take a look at her sails, and note any suggestions in the comments...let's see if we can speed her up a bit!

2013 Dallas IOM Blow-Out; Update
The Blow-Out is in the books! Craig Mackey won pretty convincingly, and I actually finished every race...a record, lol...
Anyhow, I have plenty of pictures, video, and reports which, now that I'm rested up, I'll start getting posted. Stay tuned!
